Reflective Essay on Referral Systems in Nursing

Intelligent Essay on Referral Systems in Nursing Learning Objective:- To get information about the different referrals frameworks utilized in my situation territory. This intelligent paper portrays my involvement with accomplishing my learning objective, referral framework which I had taken as a piece of the ONP program. As indicated by Dewey (1916) Reflection is a procedure which sees associations and connections between the pieces of an encounter (refered to by Boud et al, 1985). At the point when medical caretakers think about what they do, they can comprehend their training, and envision and additionally achieve changes ( road 1991; Cox et al.1991 refered to by Taylor, B. J., 2000). Reflection encourages us to change ourselves to give better mind to the patients by upgrading our abilities and information. Schon, D. (1983) underscored that reflection is a manner by which experts can connect the hypothesis practice hole, in light of the capability of reflection to reveal information in and on activity (refered to by Taylor, B. J., 2000) I have picked Gibbs model of reflection (1988) to think about my experience. I picked this system since it empowers me to recover the occasion bit by bit and along these lines to gain from my experience as experience is the best educator of all (Harry Callahan, H. refered to on the web). Referral is characterized as aã‚â personã‚â recommendedã‚â toã‚â someoneã‚â orã‚â forã‚â something (Dictionary. com, 2009).Since all human services required can't be gotten at some random degree of the framework, anã‚â effective referral instrument is a key component in the conveyance of care (The Ministry of Health, Belize, 2006). So I took this target to acclimate to the referral framework utilized in my new arrangement territory. As I am working in a stroke unit, the greater part of the patients require a multidisciplinary approach. The center multidisciplinary group incorporates suitable degrees of nursing, clinical, physiotherapy, word related treatment, discourse and language treatment, and social administrations staff. Different orders are additionally routinely associated with the administration of stroke patients including clinical analysts, therapists, dietitians. (SIGN, 2010). This was not the same as my past working experience despite the fact that there was inclusion of multidisciplinary groups and referrals to different specialities, however referrals to social administrations and furthermore the arrangements relating to referrals is another experience. I saw how my senior associates allude patients to different groups, asked questions on the different groups accessible in the trust and how to benefit them and the premise of alluding a patient. At that point, I had the option to allude patients under direction. My coach has likewise relegated me to do referrals and has surveyed me for the equivalent. I got criticism and had the option to make essential revisions. I had the option to allude patients to different groups, for example, Speech and Language advisor (SALT), diabetic medical attendant, dietitician, and OT. At first I had some trouble in understanding the different groups and their jobs, the various structures used to allude patients, techniques to allude (by fax/calls). Yet, as I had the option to complete a few referrals I got acquainted with the framework utilized in my situation territory. First and foremost I watched my senior partners alluding the patient and afterward I started to allude patients. I had the option to explain questions with my guide and associates along these lines helping me to comprehend the human services framework all the more successfully. Presently, I feel sure about alluding patients to other social insurance group varying in light of the fact that the all encompassing, thorough, intuitive methodology of an interdisciplinary group is the sign of stroke recovery (Miller et al, 2010)). I feel by taking this learning result I had the option to improve my relational abilities and collaboration subsequently empowered me to grow expertly. My guide has surveyed me equipped in alluding patients. As per Dent, S. M., 2007The capacity to hear what others are stating and decide the exactness and pertinence of their input is a noteworthy wellspring of expert and organization advancement and a basic administration competency. I trust I had the option to accomplish a significant result fundamental for me to give comprehensive consideration to the patients. As I completed a few referrals, I had the option to assemble my certainty and participate in fitting learning and practice exercises that keep up and build up my capability and execution (NMC, 2008).Guidance from my guide and associates helped me to comprehend the framework and in this way empowered me to manage it calm. My tutor evaluated me equipped in alluding persistent viably. It is essential for a patient to get proper clinical consideration where required for an expedient advancement. It is the duty of the staff to guarantee that opportune referrals are made with the goal that patient consideration isn't imperiled. In general, I had the option to pick up information about the referral framework utilized in my position which helped me to stay up with the latest with the assets accessible to guarantee viable consideration. I guaranteed that for patients under my consideration referrals are made on schedule and in the event that I don't know of something I make it a point to take the significant assessment of my seniors (NMC, 2008). As a future activity plan, I feel that I should keep my insight and aptitudes state-of-the-art (NMC, 2008) and ought to know about all the trust approaches so as to utilize the assets accessible. I will likewise effectively accomplish more referrals and be knowledgeable with the framework.

Anthem For Doomed Youth By Wilfred Owen - 1187 Words

Wilfred Owen joined the corps in 1915, at the tender age of twenty-two therefore his poems are testimonial, reflecting the gullibility evinced by many of the other young soldiers who fought in the World War. Consequently, Owen’s poems allude to a theme of the loss of innocence in the young soldiers as they were unprepared for the reality of what they would encounter. He also illustrates that the soldiers joined for materialistic reasons (e.g. titles, patronage) spurred in by the fervent propaganda. The presentation of Anthem for Doomed Youth, in a pessimistic and bleak manner, reinforces Owen’s frustration at the misfortune entrenched into the young soldiers lives as a result of the war. Irony is evident through the title, as youth and doomed are juxtaposed. ‘Youth’ is often associated with optimism and liberty whilst ‘doomed’ imitates inevitable ruin. Consequently, Owen uses this paradox to suggest that these soldiers are prone to lose their youth and are destined to have a bitter future. Furthermore, using the term ‘anthem’ to describe the poem is somewhat satirical as he hints at the prevailing attitude of nationalism which existed during the time of war but where anthems tend to be elevating and celebratory, the tone of this ‘anthem’ is tragic. ‘Anthem for Doomed Youth’ is a poem that explores the effect of post-traumatic stress disorder and the mistreatment that the soldiers experience even after death. Although, the speaker is disembodied; Owen’s own voice andShow MoreRelatedAnthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen776 Words   |  3 Pages â€Å"Anthem for Doomed Youth† is a poem written by Wilfred Owen who was a soldier that died in the Great War. Question: Critically evaluate the theories of leader and critically analyse the statement that leaders are born or made (personality vs situation) Continguency theory, Carisma theory and social identity theory. Answer: Contingency Theory Contingency theory was developed by Fred Edward Fiedler in 1964 also known as situational approach of theory. This theory studies about the personality of leader and the situation in which he operates. They studied variety of leaders and there are research findings on this model. He outlines that there are two style of leadership one is relationship motivated and another is task motivated. Relationship motivated is related to the interpersonal relationships and take motivated is related to job done. He uses least preferred co-worker scale to measure leadership style. Those who ranks high are relationship oriented and those who score less are task oriented. He also believed that leader member relations, task structure and the position powers describe the favorableness in organization for various situations (Scott, 2010). Charisma Theory Max weber developed charismatic theory and according to him charismatic leadership refers to "resting on devotion to the exceptional sanctity, heroism or exemplary character of an individual person, and of the normative patterns or order revealed or ordained by him." A charismatic leader gains the followers through his charm rather than power and authority. They pay attention to the environment, moods and concerns of the individual and group and accordingly take the action and say their words (Kendall, Jane, Rick, 2000).They uses different methods for creating their image; they practice skills and take personal risks. They display lot of confidence in their followers and have excellent body language and verbal skills. Social Identity Theory Social identity theory is developed by Henri Tajfel. It talks about the identity of the person in a group. There may be different kinds of groups like family group, social group, and football group etc. which are related to the self-esteemed pride of the group member. For the purpose to increase the self-image people enhances their status in group. We have divided the world into them (OUT GROUP) and us (IN GROUP) through social categorization. So to enhance owns self-image there is discrimination between the groups. This theory explains the prejudice attitudes within in- groups and out-groups and in the same way we categorize the people. There is a different perception for the other group and we are same as in our group and more similar than the other group (Turner, Reynolds, 2010). Leaders are Born or Made There are many different views on the statement that Leaders are born or made. It is believed that there are certain people who are born leaders because of the reference to historical background and there are others who find themselves in the management role where the leadership skills are important and they learn the same over a period of time through experience. As per the behavioral theories leaders are made not born. Leadership requires observation, learning, and teaching. It is a kind of skill that is developed by practice and experience with time. One of the most important factors to be a successful leader is to resolve the complex situation and bring together the best idea forward with the team members (Howell, 2012). References Scott, W.R. A Guide to Elliptical Constructions

A Guide to Elliptical Constructions A Guide to Elliptical Constructions A Guide to Elliptical Constructions By Mark Nichol An elliptical construction is one in which a word or phrase implied by context is omitted from a sentence, usually because it is a repetition of a preceding word or phrase. The three principal types of elliptical construction, with the omitted text enclosed in brackets, follow: Noun ellipsis: â€Å"I went swimming, and John went [swimming], too.† Verb ellipsis: â€Å"She favors romantic comedies, and Jane [favors] musicals.† Verb-phrase ellipsis: â€Å"He went for a walk, but they didn’t [go for a walk].† In a sentence in which repeated elements recur in more than one clause, a comma marks the elision of these words or phrases, and the clauses are separated by semicolons: â€Å"Igneous rock is formed from the cooling and solidification of magma of lava; sedimentary, from sedimentation of surface and underwater material; and metamorphic, from heat or pressure action on igneous, sedimentary, or another metamorphic type of rock.† In simpler sentences, you may omit the comma if you also replace a semicolon with a conjunction: â€Å"Molten rock is called magma in its subterranean form and lava during and after eruption.† But if you retain the semicolon, retain the marker comma as well: â€Å"Molten rock is called magma in its subterranean form; lava, during and after eruption.† Elliptical construction is particularly useful when listing statistics: â€Å"In 2010, he hit fifty-five home runs; in 2009, thirty-seven; and in 2008, forty-six,† or â€Å"In the school election, Tom received 345 votes and Tina 322.† Proper ellipsis in sentences spoken by different people varies: When John says, â€Å"Mary graduated,† Jane can simply reply, â€Å"She did?† rather than echoing, â€Å"She did graduate?† or â€Å"Did she graduate?† But if John says, â€Å"Mary graduated with honors,† Jane can’t respond, â€Å"Jim with highest honors.† When a verb form is omitted in one of two instances, its repetition, not its original appearance, should be omitted: â€Å"My sister has never gone mountain climbing, and never will,† not â€Å"My sister has never and will never go mountain climbing.† (â€Å"My sister has never . . . go† is ungrammatical.) When using an elliptical construction that in its full form would employ the comparative terms as and than, do not omit the first instance of the terms before the conjunction: â€Å"Golden eagles are as large as and just as majestic as bald eagles,† not â€Å"Golden eagles are as large and just as majestic as bald eagles.† Similarly, do not omit than: â€Å"Coyotes are smaller than but just as impressive as wolves,† not â€Å"Coyotes are smaller but just as impressive as wolves.† To test for grammatical soundness, temporarily omit the phrase including the conjunction and the comparative up to the object: â€Å"Golden eagles are as large . . . bald eagles† and â€Å"Coyotes are smaller . . . wolves† are ungrammatical. Also, be sure to omit only the words not essential for clarity: â€Å"The bus doesn’t go to or return from the city,† not â€Å"The bus doesn’t go or return from the city.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Book review preliminary sheet(history) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Book review preliminary sheet(history) - Essay Example One of the issues that I may pursue in my discussion is how the media and the popular culture including sport and other stately pleasures have been used to construct the Canadian identity in order to develop a better understanding of the meaning of being a Canadian. In addition, I will also dry to look into what the popular symbols of Canadian identity have in common. In this regard, each of the five chapters will serve as a case study in itself. Finally, another possible area of focus in the book will be to discuss the different ways through which the State mixes into the everyday lives of the citizens. According to Patricia Cormack and Cosgrave, the absence of Tim Horton’s coffee from daily routines might make individuals not only unusual- but a popular brand in the country and also an overwhelmingly susceptible. Unit 5 Min Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Unit 5 Min - Coursework Example Besides, this may raise the initial budget of entertainment from $50 to $100. For instance, if the project manager intended to hire an excellent decorator with a tight schedule, he or she may settle for alternative personnel who may not produce the much needed outfit decoration as earlier planned. However, in a situation when the program schedule is crashed, one may miss out on the essential items during the planning because time would not allow extensive coverage of everyone’s needs for entertainment. Lengthy planning gives the manager in charge of the project enough time to bargain and find cheap yet quality equipments for the party. This has a direct impact on the amount spent to see the event to fruition without incurring unnecessary costs. Attendance for the party is very important. When the birthday party is rushed through a crashed program, it has a general impact on the number of people invited who may finally attend. People have busy schedule, they require enough time to plan other activities to create time to attend the party. Crashed schedule may mean reduced attendance to the birthday party. Besides, one would have no alternative than to purchase readily available equipments like tents for the party, which may cost more than $100. This makes the party expensive and unrealistic. The rushing of the project will have a severe impact on the cost, selection of appropriate equipments for the party, and the number of invited guests who may attend the party. When the attendance is not guaranteed on the material day, losses will be incurred because food items and other drinks incurred will go into waste. Besides, a larger tent may have been procured yet fewer number of the invited guests may attend the event. This makes the party expensive to the

Introduction to Criminal Justice Essay Example for Free

Introduction to Criminal Justice Essay This definition of a crime comes from (Merriam-Webster On-line Dictionary) and reads; â€Å"Crime: an act or the commission of an act that is forbidden or the omission of a duty that is commanded by a public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law; especially: a gross violation of the law†. There are several definitions of crime, but there all consistent for the most part. People who commit crimes are held to answer for the crimes they are accused of. For this, we must have a judicial system in place that is fair and balanced. Although the person accused of committing the crime is sometimes judged before he’s even gone to court, he must be allowed certain rights and due process. Those rights must not be violated prior to a trial. It’s this system that makes American what we are. Sometimes there are cases that make us feel that the person being tried should just be executed or sent to jail, because the media has basically tried and convicted the person prior to trial. This was evident in the â€Å"Casey Anthony† murder trial. Most Americans and the media had convicted her prior to trial. She was found not guilty earlier today by twelve jurors. Is the system fair? Who knows, but this is the reason, lots of people believe there should be professional jurors for high profile cases like this. On the other hand our judicial system has been around for a long time and delivers in most cases a fair system of government that protects the innocent, the victims and the accused. Of course all parties involved don’t feel this way based on where you’re at during the judicial process, but it’s a system that’s fair to all parties. The system is overseen by federal systems that try to keep order and balance throughout the country. Without any of this we would be a country with no law and order. Vigilantes’ would run the streets creating their own laws and chaos would prevail. The three components of the criminal justice system are The Police, The Criminal Courts and The Correctional Institutions. Each one of these components has a very specific function and go hand in hand with one another. For example; if a person is arrested by a police officer for a residential burglary, there is a series of events that happen on the law enforcement side, before the suspect goes to court and before he becomes a part of the correctional institutions. . Once an officer confirms a crime has been committed, he must place the person under arrest and show there was probable cause to arrest the person. This information goes into a â€Å"Probable Cause statement that’s submitted during the booking process. If the suspect is questioned he must be advised of his Miranda rights by the law enforcement officer. Evidence must be collected to prove the crime was committed and the person being charged committed the crime. The suspect is then transported to the county jail for booking. The officer must then document the incident in a police report and be able to articulate the elements of the crime have been fulfilled. The evidence must be booked and the police report must then be submitted to the District Attorney’s office within a 48 hour time frame before the suspect is arraigned in court. If any of this fails’ to happen the courts could release the suspect under Penal Code 825. The case can still be submitted to the District Attorney’s office, but it will be filled out of custody. If this process has been completed correctly the criminal courts takes over their function. Once the suspect goes to court for his first appearance he is advised of his charges and the probable cause is confirmed by the courts. During this phase the report and evidence collected are examined by the defense counsel to see if the suspect has a chance of winning the case. If the defense attorney feels that his client may lose the case based off of the evidence presented he may be allowed to plea bargain in which the suspect could plead to a lesser crime or admit guilt to the crime he is accused of. There are several things that determine if this allowed to happen, to include the suspects past criminal history and the seriousness of the crime. If the courts feel there is enough probable cause and the suspect’s rights have not been violated, the suspect will be held to answer to the charges brought against him. Otherwise the suspect could be let free based on the lack of probable cause, lack of physical evidence or the suspect’s rights being violated during the arrest or questioning process. If the suspect is held to answer he will then go to an arraignment. Once there he will plead either not guilty, guilty, or no contest. If a person pleads â€Å"not guilty† he is set for pre-trial at which time his case is handled by the person’s lawyer. If need be the case goes to trial where he is judged by twelve of his peers or the person pleads to a lesser charge and the case is closed prior to the trial. If a trial takes place and the person is found guilty he will be sentenced by the judge based on the crimes committed. This can be immediately or shortly after the trial. If the suspect is sentenced to prison he then becomes a part of the correctional institution. After sentencing he is usually turned over immediately to the custody of the sheriff’s department while awaiting transportation to prison.

The History of Linux Essays -- essays research papers

It all began in 1991, during the time of monumental computing development. DOS had been bought from a Seattle hacker by Bill Gates, for a sum of $50,000 – a small price for an operating system that had managed sneak its way across the globe due to a clever marketing strategy. Apple’s OS and UNIX were both available, though the cost of running either was far greater than that of running DOS. Enter MINIX, an operating system developed from the ground up by Andrew S. Tanenbaum, a college professor. MINIX was part of a lesson plan used to teach students the inner-workings of an operating system. Tanenbaum had written a book on MINIX called â€Å"Operating System† and anyone who had picked up a copy would find the 12,000 lines of code that comprised MINIX itself. This was a big issue; due to the fact that all know (well published) operating systems to that point had been well guarded by software developers, thus making it difficult for people to truly expand on opera ting system mechanics. Then came Linus Benedict Torvalds. At the time he was a sophomore majoring in Computer Science at the University of Helsinki, his hobby also included computer programming. At 21 he found himself spending most of his time toying with computer systems, trying to see what he could do in order to push their limits and increase their functionality. The key missing in his tests was an operating system that had the flexibility craved for by professionals. MINIX was available, though it was still just a stu...

Community Organization Reflective Paper Essay

Every little change counts, and this is what I have learned after watching this video. A few people that are committed are better than having thousands of people that do not care about anything. This is like having few people that are willing to accept change than people who embraces the old system for fear of losing what they already have. The capitalists out there though don’t seem to mind groups made of small numbers of people because of their number as they fight for social change in their area. Social change when defined is a change that is happening in the environment, in our society, in the way we deal with other people, changes in the society or within the community. There are certainly good and bad sides of social change, including having social movements and social community organization that tries to work with it. One example of social change and the movement that is associated with it is the equal right movement for blacks in the United States. There was also the movement that was established for the right of women to vote or the suffrage right for women. It only means that social change can happen globally or within the locality and it can be caused by certain aspects like religion or economic or social forces that we encounter from time to time. We also have what we call progressive organizing which is about defending the weak and providing for the needy in an attempt to have a balance world (Rubin & Rubin 2008, p.4). With progressive organizing, everyone is equal hence there is no racial discrimination and they have everyone and accepts everyone regardless of their culture and gender preference or skin color. These people are bonded with one goal and they have one belief in attaining their goal. With progressive organizing, the inequality among people and progression is being eliminated hence allowing for a more balance society both financially and economically. But there are things that even this type of movement needs in  order to succeed like infrastructure, financial assistance or fund, good leaders, trusted members and supporters that are willing to help at all costs, one vision and goal and shared value (Hardisty & Perea, 2005). Just like progressive organizing, we also have community organizing where in members of the community forms a group together to protect themselves and their love ones from possible social issues within the community. Community organizations are established with the goals that everyone is aware of like policies and rules within the community. The role of community organization is to involve everyone in the community and make them create actions for their own good. Most of the community organizations that we have are established by non-profit organizations to make people in the area work together. The key for a community organization to work is to make sure everyone is involved, empowered and aware of the importance of their presence. Here are the ten concepts that we need to have when organizing a community group: -the power to make something happen -the capability to make everyone work for the group and not for themselves alone hence makes them participate -having leadership trainings to develop members that shows potential leadership capability -to make them aware of the current political condition hence political education should be provided -give strategies on how to achieve goals -to make people do something, mobilization or making thing happen -to make them do the action, let the members participate and do their job themselves -to be a winner meaning they are achieving their goals as they wanted -to do evaluation and assessment because through assessment can they figure out which action works and which one not. From then, they can move on and improve on the current action they have and do better the next time they have a project to work on with (Getsos & Minieri, 2007). Social community groups can start by doing something that they believe is right for their community like having curfews for their children. Once the goal is established, the members can share responsibilities like who will guard the community exits and entrances to ensure that everyone is home at the said hour. Individual member can now play their role, select the part they want to play and do it for the common goodness of their community. I knew a  community where in everyone is encouraged to participate in buying the products of their fellow members before choosing other products from the market especially when it comes to fruits and vegetables which is actually good because they can now buy fresh fruits and vegetables while at the same time helping their co-members earn something. Social change is needed because there is a social problem hence in order for a social change to take effect, we must understand first the social problem we have. Identify the problem that you are havin g in the society and community and make sure that it is in fact a problem and not just a part of your cultural heritage like maybe part of your prejudistic personality. If you have a clear problem in the community, then it will be easier to device a resolution for it and this time, make sure that everyone on the organization is ready to participate and are willing to be empowered. The Model That Addresses The Relationship Between An...

The model that I chose to investigate further is the conceptual model that addresses the relationship between an individual’s capabilities, health related printed materials, oral literacy and improved health outcomes (Parnell, 2015, p. 20). The defining attributes most commonly associated with health literacy are reading and numeracy skills, comprehending the written materials and the ability to determine what types of services needed and where to find them (Parnell, 2015, p. 19). Foreign-born individuals tend to have low health literacy and have even greater difficulty navigating the American health care system. They may have the following barriers that making utilizing the health care system more difficult, including inability to understand, speak or read English, have a lower education level, lack family support and lack of providers that speak their language. The first area to examine is the individual’s capacity to understand oral communications relating to their health concerns. I work in a medical day care center that has predominately Korean older adults. Some of the clients have limited ability to speak English and the rest do not understand any English. The clients rely on the bilingual Korean staff or the American staff to help them navigate the healthcare system. In order to help assure oral literacy with the health care providers our clients are limited to seeing doctors that speak Korean or have an interpreter present.
